Scott Hydaman - Hot Rod

Print page
Our very own Scott Hydaman took home a hard-earned piece of iron by winning the Hod Rod class at the Rocky Mountain Nationals held here in Edmonton in July.
Scott is the Accessory Parts Manager at Waterloo but on weekends he wheels his classic 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle down the quarter-mile.  The event winning car is a self-built vehicle that weighs in at 3,050 pounds with driver.  It is powered by a 468 inch BBC built and assembled by Scott and a Turbo 400 transmission built by his father Lawrence.  "I built the car in 1990 and have raced it ever since.  I build my own engines and do my own welding.  I had a great teacher in my dad; he is a very knowledgeable mechanic and he built me a killer Turbo 400", says the proud winner.  The backhalfed Chevelle runs 9.70 in the quarter-mile wide open.  Unlike many drivers, Scott still slows the car old school without the use of a timer.  He uses solid shims to control his ET and has proven that his methods are tried and true.
Congratulations, Scott.  We are proud of you!
